In trail running, when the rain sets in, the right gear makes the difference between finishing and dropping out. Our waterproof jackets and pants are made for extreme conditions: light so they don't slow you down, packable to fit in your pack.
Our rain protection
Blackshell³: waterproof jacket with a 3-layer membrane (20K / RET < 4.5) that meets the requirements of the biggest ultra-trails. Two-way zip and a gusset so you can wear it over your pack.
Rainshell Pants: lightweight waterproof pants, roomy at the top and fitted at the bottom. Calf zips let you pull them on without taking off your shoes.
Storm Gloves: fully waterproof gloves thanks to a double coating, fleece-lined, with anti-abrasion reinforcement for poles.
Frequently asked questions about rain protection for trail running
What do 20K and RET < 4.5 mean?
20K corresponds to a 20,000 mm water column: it's the measure of waterproofness. RET measures resistance to the evaporation of sweat: the lower it is, the more breathable the jacket. A RET below 6 is considered highly breathable.
Does the Blackshell³ meet mandatory gear requirements?
It meets the requirements of the biggest ultra-trails. The criteria (water column, taped seams, hood…) vary from race to race: always check your event's rules. See also our mandatory gear checklist.
Do you need waterproof pants for trail running?
Some ultras require them, especially in the mountains or in bad weather. The Rainshell Pants pack into your bag and go on without removing your shoes thanks to the calf zips.
How do I keep my gear dry in my running pack?
The Sealed Pouch is a pouch with a 3-layer membrane, taped seams and a waterproof zip, available in two sizes that fit the Running Bag 333. Find it with the rest of our trail running gear.
